BAGGIO, Maria Aparecida et al. Incidence and sociodemographic characteristics of patients with coronary conditions. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2011, vol.serIII, n.5, pp.73-81. ISSN 0874-0283.  https://doi.org/10.12707/RIII1037.

Cardiovascular diseases are the principal cause of death in Brazil. For this reason, the objective of this study is to verify the incidence of the population of inpatients at the Cardiological Institute of Santa Catarina (Instituto de Cardiologia de Santa Catarina) for clinical and surgical treatment for coronary conditions and to characterize the socio-demographic characteristics of patients having myocardial revascularization. This is a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study of 11000 records of patients who were attended from 2005 to 2009. Of these, 1755 represent inpatient records for myocardial infarction, 5977 for coronary angiography procedures, 2264 for coronry angioplasty, and 1004 for myocardial revascularization surgery. Depending on the variables of this study, the data were grouped in tables and analyzed descriptively. Male patients with coronary conditions (68,55%) prevailed over females (3155%). The revascularized patients were predominantly white, had low levels of formal education, were aged 51 to 70, retired, and lived in the municipalities of São José and Florianópolis. The incidence data allow permit nursing and healthcare professionals to plan care actions, health promotion, and health education, while the acknowlolgement of socio-demographic characteristics allow coronary ICU professionals to plan patient care after revascularization.
