This is a theoretical study aimed at contributing to understanding of the professional and organizational resocialization process of the nurse manager. Thus, we report the premises of the U Theory in order to contribute to the development of human resources in Nursing. U Theory presents values for nursing managerial work characterized by the acts of feeling, living and concretizing. Based on four studies in the Brazilian Nursing literature about the nursing role over three decades, we noted a consolidation of organizational values based on classical management models, emphasizing the mechanical view of humans which does not match with an understanding of health services as social entities. In this context, we conclude that it is possible to include the premises of U Theory in nurses’ management activities, resocializing them in terms of behaviors and attitudes based on feeling, living and concretizing.
