ROCHA, Andreia; SILVA, Maria José  e  SIMOES, Jorge. Entrepreneurial intentions of Secondary School Students: The Entrepreneurship Program at school. Economia Global e Gestão [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.Especial, pp.77-97. ISSN 0873-7444.

Due to the importance of the entrepreneurial in society today, activities that foster this spirit among youngsters has become an important issue. In Portugal, there has been a significant increase in the activities organized in schools by private entities focusing on entrepreneurship. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of these entrepreneurship activities in schools on the development of students’ entrepreneurial profiles and to gauge their influence on the students’ entrepreneurial intentions. A theoretical support on entrepreneurship and education on entrepreneurship was developed, which we sought to corroborate by implementing an “Entrepreneurship in School” program for secondary school students at Estarreja Secondary School. Primary data from a questionnaire to study the entrepreneurial intentions of secondary students was used to empirically test our hypothesis. This questionnaire was applied at two different times: before and after the “Entrepreneurship in School” activities. Factorial analysis and a logistic regression model were applied and it was concluded that variables like the motivation given by school agents, student participation in extracurricular activities and the desire to continue studying influenced the students’ entrepreneurial intentions. As for the students’ entrepreneurial profile, it was concluded that more creative students with the will to win and a better ability to implement entrepreneurial projects are more likely to create their own business. It is therefore suggested that future research also analyzes the importance of each agent in the construction of an entrepreneurial profile.
