The issue of the unpredictability of occupational paths in the post-Fordist capitalist era has been widely discussed in contemporary sociology. Beginning with the second half of the 20^th century, the article contextualises this debate in the Portuguese case. Mobilising the occupational trajectory concept, which it develops using a sequential analysis of the trajectories of three Portuguese age cohorts, it offers a path typology that articulates contractual formats and work. The results reveal a wide variety of trajectories and a segmentation of paths into different degrees of contractual vulnerability.
