This article analyses the presence and use of information and communication technologies, as well as e-commerce practices, in Portuguese enterprises. The distribution of these resources is examined according to sector of activity and size of the enterprises. A comparison is made between Portuguese and European companies concerning their situation in this regard, as well as an evaluation of their contribution to building an information and knowledge society in Portugal.
