The aim of this text is to scrutinize Leni Riefenstahl’s manner of filming in order to subsequently contrast it with that of Manoel de Oliveira. Oliveira’s aesthetic choices compromise the vocation of image for aestheticizing events, a practice that made notable the German director, Hitler’s favorite. For this purpose, the author selected two works (Triumph of the Will and Voyage to the Beginning of The World) which, when broken down as analysis subjects, might provide input for comprehending some of the consequences of living in a society where the "artificial", visible universe, in Jameson’s words, has become one the major arenas of the struggle of contemporary existence.
