At the moment, within sociological reflection, economic sociology is one of the research areas registering the greatest expansion. With this situation in mind, this text attempts to assess the present situation for the subject in Portugal. In the first part, references at an institutional level are considered, retrieving the research work that makes explicit use of the economic sociology label or that tries to explore direct links between economics and sociology. Subsequently, other closely related study topics are mentioned: industrial sociology, the sociology of labour, the informal economy, the territorial contexts of production and economic elites and the entrepreneurial class, among others.
