This article summarises the main conclusions of an exploratory study aimed at improving knowledge of the composition, life conditions and personal stories of the immigrant population of the Loures council area (part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area) by conducting a crossed analysis of data from two separate sources: the daily press and ethnographic fieldwork. In addition to the methodological aspects of their research work, the authors discuss the information they obtained from four problematization axes, which are organised around the notions of: territory/mobility, immigrant/foreigner, citizen/person without documents and the institutional/informal.
