Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Luísa  and  CARVALHO, Helena. A segmentaçãodo espaço de inovação na indústria portuguesa. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2002, n.39, pp.39-56. ISSN 0873-6529.

Looking at technological innovation as the driving force behind a new competitive standard raises the key issue of the relationships between universities and industry and the transferability of academic learning. This paper questions the way in which this subject is being addressed in Portuguese society and seeks to identify the multiple relationships that may or may not exist between industrial companies and the institutions which produce/translate the knowledge that characterises our scientific and technological system. Beginning with what they call the paradox of the relations between universities and industry in Portugal, the authors put forward the notion of a space for innovation and analyse the hypothesis of that space’s segmentation. They apply homogeneity and cluster analyses to the data collected during a survey of industrial companies.

Keywords : Innovation; university and industry; transfers of knowledge; space for innovation.
