Abstract
BERNARDO, Carla; GARCIA, Filipa; LOPES, Sílvia and PIMENTEL, Duarte. Estrutura e comunicação organizacionais: uma autonomia relativa. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2001, n.36, pp.143-158. ISSN 0873-6529.
Companies are social systems that engage in purpose-driven collective action - they incorporate individuals who interact with one another in order to attain objectives. Inasmuch as it is impossible to totally regulate the players' behaviour, it is difficult to empirically sustain a rigid disassociation between the formal and the informal. While it is imperative that companies adopt a formal structure, the differences between them may condition communication. However, the positions that individuals occupy in the various component elements of the corporate structure hide another reality: a set of experiences that are shared during the course of daily working life, which, quite apart from anything else, themselves structure a singular form of communicational dynamics. The case study that gave rise to this article enables us to say that communication displays a "relative degree of autonomy" in relation to organisational structure.
