Abstract

NASCIMENTO, José Luís; LOPES, Albino  and  SALGUEIRO, Maria de Fátima. Estudo sobre a validação do “Modelo de Comportamento Organizacional” de Meyer e Allen para o contexto português. Comport. Organ. Gest. [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.1, pp.115-133. ISSN 0872-9662.

One of the organizational commitment models that have been revealing major consistence in the several studies in which was used is the “Three-Components Model” of Meyer and Allen (1991). The authors (Meyer & Allen, 1997) propose also three scales that allow the measurement of the affective, continuance and normative components of the organizational commitment. The present work has the objective to contribute for the study of the validation, for the Portuguese context, of the referred model and the three scales associated to it. The results obtained allowed to identify an affective, continuance and normative components of the organizational commitment, as established for the authors. However, the model was not validated. Actually, it was found a structure of relationships among the three components that was not in line with the theoretical and empiric framework established. Finally, the results allowed the scales validation. In spite of this, there was the need to consider the elimination of some of the original items. The implications of these results were discussed and it was suggested further studies.

Keywords : The Three-Component Model; organizational commitment; Organizational Commitment Scales; validation.
