Abstract

This article identifies the barriers to knowledge management in schools of management and economics of the Portuguese public higher education sector. It considers knowledge management as a collective and interactive process that comprises the generation, codification, and transference of knowledge. As part of a study on knowledge management activities in the Portuguese higher education sector, it was carried out a survey to the faculty of management and economics public schools. We collected 142 valid responses for data analysis. Descriptive and factorial analysis of data reveals thefollowing main barriers to knowledge management: leadership and organization; communication; organizational resources.
