FERREIRA, Margarida et al. Mesenteric Inflammatory Venooclusive Disease - a Rare Cause of Intestinal Ischemia. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.1, pp.23-27. ISSN 0872-8178.

Mesenteric inflammatory venooclusive disease is a rare cause of intestinal ischemia. Diagnosis is based on the demonstration of inflammation of mesenteric veins, without concomitant involvement of the arterial system. The authors describe the clinical case of a patient admitted with an intestinal obstruction, submitted to colonoscopy which showed edema of the mucosa and decrease of the distensibility of sigmoid and descendent. Radiological study revealed an irregular stenosis suggestive of a tumor. Biopsy was inconclusive. A segmental resection of involved bowel was performed and histological examination of the ressected specimen has shown alterations compatible with venooclusive disease. Good clinical evolution was verified. We discuss the main aspects of the therapeutic and diagnosis.

Palavras-chave : Venooclusive disease; mesenteric ischemia.
