Abstract

MAIA, Inês. Unveiling praxe: challenges of an ethnographic approach. Sociologia [online]. 2018, vol.36, pp.11-30. ISSN 0872-3419.  https://doi.org/10.21747/08723419/soc36a1.

Praxe is a central phenomenon in the framework of the university student rules of sociability. We studied its ability to interact socially, as the most important mechanism of integration, based on two case studies of Oporto University. We outline in this article a reflection about this research process, highlighting the challenges of the ethnographic incursion into which it is anchored. Using observation as a technique, we concluded about its relevance: as a means of making the dimensions of the phenomenon intelligible; allowing the confrontation between stated practices and observed ones and the richness in understanding practices and its meanings.

Keywords : praxe; ethnography; observation.
