Abstract

This article aims to present different ways of reading and imagining the city of Porto through an interpretation as a plural, multivocal and multisensorial space. The urban spaces transformation, caused by who lives in the city and who move in it, gives rise to different readings, images and representations that, together, are able to construct true mental maps. Based on a master's degree research in sociology, at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, we focus on its students, due to their social, geographical and cultural heterogeneity, as potential lenses of the city, concluding that the place of residence and the academic field has influence in the construction of the urban mental maps.
