Abstract

NICO, Magda  and  ALVES, Nuno de Almeida. The wellbeing of children and young people in Portugal: contributions from a qualitative research. Sociologia [online]. 2017, vol.34, pp.93-113. ISSN 0872-3419.  https://doi.org/10.21747/08723419/soc34aa5.

The well-being of children and young people is of central importance in contemporary societies. But theo- retical and methodological difficulties of its definition, measurement and understanding are still numerous. This article approaches this topic using data from individual and focus group interviews to 45 participants. The results underline the theoretical and methodological complexity of studying this topic among such young people. Themes more connected to practices and to daily life obtained full correspondence by the individuals, but that did not succeed with the more abstract notions of well-being

Keywords : well-being; children; young people; Portugal; methodology.
