Abstract

COUTO, Ana Isabel. Social attitudes towards self-employment in times of crisis: from the valuing of self-employment to the decrease of entrepreneurial initiative. Sociologia [online]. 2017, vol.33, pp.73-94. ISSN 0872-3419.  https://doi.org/10.21747/08723419/soc33a4.

Data and research within the domain of social attitudes towards work show that Portuguese people are strongly attracted to self-employment rather than to paid employment. However, socioeconomic mutations from the last decade contributed to raise interest regarding the attractiveness of Portuguese people for self- employment. This article focus not only on the analysis of the evolution of social attitudes towards work in a period of time characterized by profound socioeconomic changes, namely the global economic recession of 2008, but also of the practices of individuals towards self-employment and entrepreneurship in Portugal

Keywords : attitudes towards work; entrepreneurship; self-employment.
