This paper aims to analyze the social representations about public school shared by the educational agents belonging to two prestigious private schools located in Lisbon. Based on discourses of principals, teachers, students and parents - collected through individual interviews and focus groups - we conclude that they share a negative and devalued perception about public schools. Lack of organizational framework, of institutional identity, of rigor's cultures and of sense of “second family”, as well as the disciplinary problems, characterize, in their opinion, the current public school
