Abstract

DIOGO, Vera  and  GUERRA, Paula. Social Innovation as a renewed utopia: the case of Habitat For Humanity Braga. Sociologia [online]. 2013, vol.25, pp.141-163. ISSN 0872-3419.

This article presents a reflection about the diverse discourses on social innovation developed under Associação Humanitária Habitat’s intervention. The analysis is focused on four dimensions: identity, interaction, civic, interorganizational and interscale dimension. We defend that social innovation implies the type of change that rehabilitates the resilience capacity of social systems, promoting people’s capacities, improving human and social capital. The third setor organizations have a crucial role in this process; given this scenario, we propose the conceptualization of social innovation as the possibility of a renewed utopia.

Keywords : Identity; Third Setor; Social Innovation; Utopia.
