Abstract

NUNES, Nuno. Social inequalities and collective action in contemporary societies: the theoretical fruitfulness of Pierrre Bourdieu and Nicos Mouzelis. Sociologia [online]. 2013, vol.25, pp.33-53. ISSN 0872-3419.

With a view towards enriching the scientific problem of collective action, this paper discusses the importance of Pierre Bourdieu’s and Nicos Mouzelis’ theoretical views and their ability to raise new questions about the dominant paradigms and theories of collective action. It is based in the productive area of the theories of practice and social hierarchies, the centrality that ultimately give a perspective of social inequalities - an approach as important to the study of collective action - and justification for the heuristic accuracy of the concepts of social class, fields, social interaction, collective actors and institutions, for the understanding of the dynamics of collective action in contemporary societies.

Keywords : Collective action; Social inequality; Theory of practice; Theory of social hierarchies.
