Abstract

COUTO, Mariana et al. Allergic diseases in sports. Rev Port Imunoalergologia [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.4, pp.259-275. ISSN 0871-9721.

Exercise-induced hypersensitivity syndromes include several allergic diseases caused by exercise practice, namely exercise-induced asthma/bronchoconstriction, rhinitis associated with exercise, exercise-induced anaphylaxis or urticaria. These are significant problems for those practicing sports both in a recreational and in an elite level. An adequate management depends upon its recognition, which allows a correct diagnosis and proper treatment. Allergic diseases associated with sports are a frequent cause of frustration both for patients, caregivers, coaches and physical education teachers. In this context, during the year 2015/2016, the Interest Group of Asthma and Allergy in Sports of the Portuguese Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology organized a course called “Allergic diseases in Sports”, for teachers and coaches, aiming to spread the knowledge about these pathologies. The present article includes the didactic material presented and also the feedback provided by the attendees
