The Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, is well known for having received some of the most important doctors and scientists of the Portuguese History of Medicine. Professor Álvaro António Pinheiro Rodrigues was one of the most renowned and notorious Doctor of this institution, having contributed significantly to the advancement and development of Medicine. The Museum of History of Medicine “Maximiano Lemos” in the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto, inherited some of the professor’s legacy, personal and professional, donated by the family allowing us to follow his career either academic, scientific, clinical, as a hospital manager and humanitarian. Professor Álvaro Rodrigues completed its Medical and surgery general course at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Porto, in 1927. He supported his thesis in 1930, having been recognized by the national and international scientific community. He devoted himself to Anatomy and Experimental surgery research, focusing on the study of the lymphatic system structure and lymphangiography. Later on, he stood out by its innovative research in oncology, namely in the clarification of the involvement of the lymphatic system in its pathogenesis and treatment. He was assistant professor of Anatomy and regent of surgical Medicine and Histology and Embryology disciplines, having been designated Professor of Clinical surgery. He devoted himself for medical profession, for its unique talent for delivering healthcare. He excelled by his human and democratic character in the leadership positions he took over, as hospital and faculty manager, influencing institutions and the people with whom he worked with.
