Abstract

MEIRELES, Sara et al. Neuroendocrine tumor of larynx with cutaneous metastasis. Arq Med [online]. 2014, vol.28, n.2, pp.33-35. ISSN 2183-2447.

Neuroendocrine tumours of the larynx are rare tumours which include four histologic subtypes: paraganglioma, typical carcinoid, atypical carcinoid tumor and small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. The identification of the right tumour type is of great importance since the tumour clinical behaviour and response to therapy are closely related to the histological diagnosis. The authors report a clinical case of neuroendocrine tumour of the larynx with multiple regional recurrences and cutaneous metastasis. The recurrent tumour behaviour and cutaneous metastasis favour the diagnosis of atypical carcinoid. Following this case, a literature review is undertaken.

Keywords : neuroendocrine tumour; larynx; surgery; radiotherapy; somatostatin analogues.
