Although rates of operative vaginal delivery are diminishing, vacuum-assisted delivery has emerged as the method of choice in operative vaginal delivery. Before an operative vaginal delivery it is always good to remember the prerequisites, indications and contraindications for vacuum extraction. in this paper we presente a review of the literature about the technique for the use of vacuum extractor, the prerequisites needed for its use and maternal and neonatal complications associated with its use.
