Abstract

JORGE, Joana Calejo  and  CERQUEIRA, Ana Maria. Erotomania: Bibliographic Review and Case Report. Arq Med [online]. 2012, vol.26, n.5, pp.195-201. ISSN 2183-2447.

The “Erotomania”, also known as Clérambault Syndrome, consists on the delirious conviction that one is loved by a person from a higher social status, with whom any close relationship is shared. It is a subtype of chronic delusional disorder in DSM-IV-TR with very low incidence and prevalence in females. It may present independently- primary form- or associated with psychotic symptoms such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorders- secondary form. The delusion remains constant and immutable- fixed from- or alters with the change of the loving object- recurrent form. With this work we intend to review the existing information in the literature regarding Erotomania and present an illustrative case history of the disease. Given the fact that it has not been reported in the literature any case of primary Erotomania, fixed form of delirium, covering all Ellis & Mellsop diagnostic criteria for the pure form of the disease, the authors considered its contribution to be pertinent.

Keywords : erotomania; De Clérambault syndrome; delusion.
