PONCE, Raissa M. et al. Physiological potential of buckwheat seeds evaluated by different vigor tests. Rev. de Ciências Agrárias [online]. 2019, vol.42, n.3, pp.81-90. ISSN 0871-018X.  https://doi.org/10.19084/rca.16957.

Methods that accurately and quickly evaluate seed vigor are useful tools in quality control and decision making for seed lot utilization. The objective of this study was to verify the efficiency of different vigor tests in the evaluation of the physiological potential, as well as the effect of the period of seed imbibition on the results of electrical conductivity tests and leaching of buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) seeds. Six seed lots of ‘IPR-92 Altar’ buckwheat were used, which were submitted to water content, mass of one thousand seeds, germination, first germination count, germination at low temperature, length and dry mass of aerial part and root, emergency speed index, seedling emergence, electrical conductivity and potassium leaching. For electrical conductivity and potassium leaching, the seeds were submitted to different periods of imbibition. The low temperature germination and the rate of emergence were efficient in separating the lots at levels of vigor. The electrical conductivity and the potash leaching, in periods of up to 24 hours, were not an efficient option to verify the vigor of the lots.

Palavras-chave : Fagopyrum esculentum Moench; germination; buckwheat.
