Abstract
URSULINO, Denise M. A. and MORENO, Maria. M. T.. Assessment of the quality of soils using physical and mineralogical indicators. Rev. de Ciências Agrárias [online]. 2014, vol.37, n.2, pp.179-186. ISSN 0871-018X.
Brazilian soils have been affected extensively and intensely by degradation processes. They have been subjected to adverse effects due to the tropical climate and the geographical conditioning, in addition to the harmful effects of man actions. The soils of Sobral district, located in the Brazilian semiarid region, are degraded due to the inappropriate way in which they have been historically used and occupied. Thus, it was hypothesized that the application of organic compound produced can recover two types of degraded soil in Sobral: the Planossolo Nártico and the Neossolo Litólico, evaluated through the following indicators: laser granulometry, moisture, and micromorphological analysis. The results showed that the compound could be used to restore degraded soils, since the material provided to keep the soil moist, with high nutrient availability and resistant to solar radiation intensity and the lack of rain, two peculiar characteristics of the studied region.
