This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity in vitro and the potential use of ethanol extracts and essential oils of coriander, oregano and pennyroyal to protect tomato against pith necrosis (TPN) caused by Pseudomonas corrugata or P. mediterranea, and agaist P. syringae pv. tomato. Under in vitro experimental conditions it is concluded that extracts and essential oils studied have biological potential, inhibiting, in appropriate concentrations, the growth of phytopathogenic microorganisms. Trials conducted in the greenhouse revealed that the application of ethanolic extracts and essential oils of coriander, oregano and pennyroyal, compared to the application of copper oxychloride, resulted in similar effects on disease incidence and severity, indicating that under greenhouse condition, these plant extracts may be an alternative to the use of copper compounds in the control of these diseases of tomato.
