Abstract

BRANDAO, Tânia  and  MATOS, Paula Mena. Efficacy of psychological group interventions for women with breast cancer: A systematic review. Rev. Port. Sau. Pub. [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.1, pp.98-106. ISSN 0870-9025.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rpsp.2015.01.001.

This review aims to analyze the efficacy of psychological interventions programs for women with breast cancer. Studies were identified by searching multiple databases and hand-searching of randomized controlled trials. A total of 48 studies were identified. The majority of psychological interventions programs were based on cognitive-behavior therapy, supportive-expressive therapy, psychoeducation and psychosocial therapy. These studies suggested positive results in psychological and biological dimensions. Twelve studies did not report any benefits. We can conclude that psychological interventions programs for women with breast cancer are effective in the promotion of breast cancer adaptation. Future studies should focus on overcoming the methodological limitations identified and focus on analyzing the processes of changes associated with the psychological interventions programs implemented.
