RIBEIRO, Fábio André  e  SANTOS, Henrique. Modificações da composição química do aço inoxidável duplex vazado 25Cr-6Ni-3Mo-3Cu para melhoria da resistência à corrosão por picadas. C.Tecn. Mat. [online]. 2009, vol.21, n.1-2, pp.68-83. ISSN 0870-8312.

The present work was developed in collaboration with Ferespe - Fundição do ferro e aço Lda, with the purpose of studying the effect of chemical composition changes in the microstructural and pitting corrosion resistance parameters, in cast duplex stainless steels. To accomplish the objective, solution annealing in a range of temperatures between 1050 and 1200ºC was carried out in two steels with different chemical composition and different PREN, both in the as cast state, whose chemical composition was 25Cr-7Ni-3Mo-0,21N-0,03C and 27Cr-7Ni-5Mo-0,4N-0,02C; in this paper these steels will be called 25-7-3 and 27-7-5 respectively. A third steel with a composition 25Cr-6Ni-3Mo-3Cu-0,17N-0,02C, from now on designated 25-6-3-3, produced long ago by FERESPE, was used as a reference. Pitting corrosion  resistance was evaluated  in the samples submitted to the above-mentioned heat treatments, using the procedures of the ASTM  G 61-96 specification, and the A and E method of the ASTM G48-03 specification. The results show that the alloying elements increase, essentially chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen (27-7-5), leads to a raise in the pitting corrosion resistance, with the exception of the material solution annealed at 1050ºC, which showed sigma phase appearance in the austenite/ferrite interface. The determination of the solution annealing temperature that maximizes the pitting corrosion resistance for the 25-7-3 and 27-7-5 steels was possible through the application of method E of the ASTM G 48-03 standard. Microstructural modifications of the steels, namely sigma phase presence, were evaluated after submitting the steels to isothermal stages at 900ºC, with durations of 1, 10, and 100 minutes; the evaluation of the pitting corrosion resistance was carried out in the samples submitted to the isothermal stage, with the application of the procedures expressed in the ASTM G61-96 and ASTM G48-03 (A method) standards. The results showed the degradation of the pitting corrosion resistance in all the steels at all durations of isothermal stages.
