The aim of this paper is to divulge the final results of the " Projecto Mobilizador  SITEM - Sistema Integrado de Engenharia e Gestão da Manutenção de Instalações e Equipamentos Industriais", which was created to develop a set of methodologies and computing tools for supporting management systems and plant improvements. Such methodologies were oriented to improve the performance of the Maintenance Managers, since it was well known that the Portuguese Maintenance Departments had a very small participation from the phases of conception to the implementation of the industrial projects. The "Projecto SITEM" was developed by an industrial consortium formed by ALSTOM PORTUGAL,S.A., CELBI-CELULOSE BEIRA INDUSTRIAL,S.A., EDP-GESTÃO DE PRODUÇÃO DE ENERGIA,S.A., FEUP-FACULDADE DE ENGENHARIA DA UNIVERSIDADE DO PORTO, ISQ- INSTITUTO DE SOLDADURA E QUALIDADE and PORTUCEL-EMPRESA PRODUTORA DE PASTA E PAPEL, S.A.
