Since conceptions play a relevant role in people’s life, we developed a study on teacher training related to this idea. We intended to determine if and how they influence pedagogical action and interact with collaborative work and the need to change. In this didactic intervention underlying this study, took part six students organized in two teams attending a course included in a second cycle of studies within the Bologna Process focused on training early childhood educators and primary school teachers (University of Aveiro, Portugal - academic year 2010/2011). The students were invited to answer a questionnaire before the didactic intervention and to close it by writing an individual essay on the work they had done during the course, which promoted collaborative work and reflection through the participation in an online discussion forum. In this text, we present, compare and discuss the initial and final conceptions of these students. The results reveal that the initial conceptions on the role played by collaborative work on their professional lives influenced the interest the students attached to the participation on the online discussion forum. The individual written essays presented after the intervention disclosed a reflection on the need to change. This study allowed us to present some recommendations intended on helping the students to conceive didactic strategies/activities in a collaborative way. It was affected by problems related to the instability of the two platforms chosen to lodge the online discussion forum.
