Abstract

PENAJOIA, Marta Sofia; PINHO, Maria Salomé  and  DIAS, Isabel Teixeira. Influência da familiaridade com procedimentos judiciais de interrogatório na sugestionabilidade interrogativa de reclusos reincidentes. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.3, pp.251-264. ISSN 0870-8231.  https://doi.org/10.14417/ap.861.

Recognized the need for a more rigorous study and well-founded of the factors influencing the accuracy of testimony in forensic contexts, we have seen a growing interest on the part of the scientific community concerning the conditions for the occurrence of interrogative suggestibility. The present study attempted to analyze whether the contact with inquiry procedures used by the criminal justice system affects the interrogative suggestibility as assessed by the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale 1 (GSS 1). It was also analyzed the relationship between interrogative suggestibility and other psychological variables such as non-verbal intelligence, neuroticism, social desirability and malingering or insufficient effort. Two groups of adults were recruited, one of them consisting of 42 inmates with multiple convictions and the other of 42 subjects who were never subjected to judicial inquiries. In addition to GSS 1 were administered, individually, to both groups the following instruments: Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices, NEO Five-Factor Inventory, Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale, and Test of Memory Malingering. Recidivist inmates demonstrated lower interrogative suggestibility when compared to subjects without contact with judicial inquiries. Statistically significant correlations were observed between the suggestibility measures and non-verbal intelligence and social desirability, with differentiated characteristics in both groups. These results suggested that these variables should take into account in credibility assessment of testimonies and confessions.

Keywords : Interrogative suggestibility; Inmates; Non-verbal intelligence; Neuroticism; Social desirability; Malingering.
