This study aimed to assess the associations between mothers’ knowledge and access to the secure base script and their satisfaction with the social support received. 36 mothers (married or living together, one was divorced), with preschool children participated. The Narrative Assessment of Adult Attachment Representations was used to assess the secure base script, testing its validity, and controlling for the first time with Portuguese samples, subjects verbal competence (VCI). Perceived Social Support was assessed using the Social Support Satisfaction Scale. The results show that mother Total secure base script was marginally correlated with their verbal competence. Only one dimension of social support - Social Activities was associated with the maternal secure script (after controlling for VCI). Results were discussed using Bowlby/Ainsworth Attachment Theory (with focus on the Internal Working Models) and the Perceived Social Support, with methodological considerations.
