Research carried out in several orthographies confirmed the influence of phonological and morphological awareness in orthographic performance. Our aim is to analyse how phonological and morphological awareness are connected with different types of orthographic misspelling of 2nd and 4th grade children and clarify the nature of the relation between phonological and morphological awareness and misspelling on words with contextual restrictions misspelling on words with morphological restrictions and misspelling on regular words. Our results show significant negative and moderate correlations between phonological awareness and the 3 types of misspellings. The same kinds of correlations were obtained between morphological awareness and misspelling on contextual words and misspelling on morphological words. There were not found any correlation between morphological awareness and phonetic misspellings.
