Abstract

ARAUJO, Patrícia  and  JORDAO, Filomena. “Os Inempregáveis”: Estudos de caso sobre os impactos psicossociais do não-emprego em licenciados portugueses. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.2, pp.289-314. ISSN 0870-8231.

World-wide, labour relations change and a new category of higher educated workers emerges: The nonemployable, that although congregate years of professional experience, never had employment in the sense of a juridical relationship (employment contract without term). While studies about nonemployment are scarce, abond studies on job-loss. Thus, in this study we intend: To explore the psychosocial impacts of involuntary nonemployment in Portuguese higher educated workers the coping strategies used to deal with those impacts. We selected the multiple case study and the interview to trace the life history. The six cases are nonemployable, involuntarily in a precarious work situation or without work activity. We use the software Nvivo to analyse data. The results show more impacts (negative and positive) in the condition of precarious work than in nonwork activity and we found more positive impacts than those indicate by the literature. The “active focalization” is the most used coping strategy. We finalize proposing clues for future investigation and initiatives to stop nonemployment.
