Taking as a reference the notion of resilience in families as an interactive and dynamic process this article on identifying the resilience processes of families with a history of marital violence. In order to accomplish that goal, narrative technique was used and forms of communication related to violent events were identified, such as protective mechanisms and risk situations of the families in different contexts. Protective factors were not the same for both families. Although similar, they had different meanings, since each family kept its own identity characteristics when faced with violence, each responding in their own manner and according to their values and beliefs. If was possible to conclude that the presence of protective mechanisms was fundamental for the building of resilience processes in the participating families.
