Abstract
SILVA, Francisco Vaz da. Diferenças desenvolvimentais e de envolvimento em dois grupos de crianças surdas em função do número de anos de apoio. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.1, pp.119-133. ISSN 0870-8231.
Given the effects of early intervention on the development of deaf children, our research aims to contribute to the understanding of developmental and engagement differences in deaf children as a function of the number of years of enrolment in support programs. The results of developmental assessment and observed engagement of two groups of deaf and hard-of-hearing children were compared. Our results showed negative effects of latter intervention on language development, as well as other areas that rely on social interaction. Observed engagement also showed differences between the two groups, early intervention children were found to be engaged more frequently in the more sophisticated levels of engagement, compared to the children of the later intervention group. Strong positive associations between developmental scores and sophisticated engagement are reported.
