The gap between research and practice, translated in fewer practices using evidence-based knowledge, is a problem that concerns the early intervention researchers in Portugal. Trough this work we try to understand, based on a case study, if, in this context (Portuguese) the family centered practices adopted, are corresponded or similar to those assumed currently as evidence-based. Our goal was not to generalize the results, but get a deeper comprehension on the implementation of those practices, in a descriptive and process based format, allowing the identification of possible areas of improvement. The results show existing gaps at the professional practices level, giving us clues for reflection which can be useful to promote the practices quality and to future research aiming to study some of the questions raised in this study such as: the need to enhance the range of responses as a function of the problems faced; a higher efficacy on: the ISFP use, the social support networks mobilization for the families, the resources and services coordination, the training and supervision of professionals.
