The main goal of this study is to understand how the experience of homeless people can develop the psychological empowerment. Using a qualitative research methodology, three homeless men with ages between 25 and 56 years old were interviewed. The results suggest that living as a homeless can promote a critical conscience of the sociopolitical environment in which the person lives, develop problems resolution capacities and a sense of self competence, as well as a capacity of access to existing resources. From these results, we discuss how the meanings of the experience of being homeless can involve dimensions that seem not to have been taken in consideration in the past.
