This literature review focus on excessive weight and obesity and their associated factors across the different phases of the life cycle. Moreover, this article evidences the prevalence rates of obesity and excessive weight in different age groups and in diverse countries. It is also examined the diet behaviour, its impact on cognitive performance, as well as the conceptualization of excessive food ingestion as an addictive behaviour. Finally, the efficacy of cognitive-behavioural interventions for weight loss, both for children/adolescents and adults, is explored.
