The aim of this paper it is a state of art about menopause literature. The research that has been developed in the field of menopause has focused systematically on the symptoms related with hormonal changes and has conceptualized menopause from the bio-medical standpoint. The study of the psycho-socio-cultural experience has evidenced that other factors may play a deter-minant role in the way women experience the climacteric symptoms and experience peri- and post-menopause. It is also addressed several non-hormonal interventions that have been effective in the management of some symptoms related with peri- and post-menopause.
