In this article, the authors present a model for qualitative data analysis, the Correspondence Factorial Analysis (CFA), which can be used in researches of different phenomena in the area of psychology. Correspondent factorial analysis is a multivariate descriptive statistic methodology that shows similarity between rows and columns of a data matrix, and is based in the hypothesis on the independence between rows and columns of such matrix (eg. Doise, Clémence & Lorenzi-Cioldi, 1992; Lorenzi-Cioldi, 1983). The authors conceptualise the correspondence factor analysis in the ambit of general factor analysis, and characterise it in terms of the main aspects, uses and interpretation, and compare it with other qualitative data analysis methodology. The authors exemplify the application of correspondence factorial analysis with the treatment of qualitative data of a research on social representations, which is part of a broader empirical study on social representations of death, suicide and music in adolescence developed in the ambit of a doctoral dissertation in social psychology (cf. Oliveira, 2004, 2007).
