The present study approaches the association among the perception about the physical appearance and the intimate friendship, considering them as a factor of important predictive value in the adolescents psychosocial development. A group of enrolled students in the 12th Year of Education, was asked to answer a direct application questionnaire containing the following measures: Intimate Friendship Scale (Sharabany, 1994), The self-perception profile for college students (Neemann & Harter, 1986) adapted for the Portuguese population (Ribeiro, 1994) and Family Social Notation - Adapted Graffar, adapted of the original (Graffar, 1956). The values of Intimate Friendship are higher for girls and the values of Perception on the Physical Appearance are higher for boys. The values of the Perception on the Physical Appearance suggest a different valorization among sexes of the physical self-concept and intimate friendship aspects in the adolescents’ social and personal adaptation.
