International research on dating violence relationships has increased exponentially, especially in the last two decades. Also in Portugal, some studies have been conducted in this area. This article intends to present a review of the current body of literature about this theme, focused on the prevalence rates of this kind of abuse, and with a special emphasis on the relationship between victimization, aggression and gender. Simultaneously, beliefs and attitudes about this form of violence are analysed, as well as the risk factors to its occurrence, and it’s impact of violence in life of the young persons involved. This article concludes discussing some suggestions for future research in order to achieve a better comprehension of this problem.
