A summary of the most recent data regarding research on therapy is carried out including those relating to existential framework. A number of controversies, which are present in the psychotherapeutics community, are dealt with leading to a hiatus between therapists and researchers. The importance of the paradigm "change process research" is suggested for the development of research that allows for better information on procedures, which foster therapeutics change as well as inform the different agents involved: patients, therapists, supervisors, and people in charge of services of mental health. The need to increase a greater number of psychotherapeutics research programmes in Portugal has been underlined.
