^lpt^aNeste estudo pretendeu-se caracterizar e descrever as dimensões avaliativas que se poderão encontrar nas representações sociais de técnicos de saúde (médicos, enfermeiros, técnicos de análises clínicas, psicólogos, técnicos de serviço social, dietistas, fisioterapeutas, etc.) a exercer funções numa maternidade sobre o fenómeno da substituição gestacional e sobre as próprias hospedeiras gestacionais. Para o efeito, foi desenvolvido um questionário do qual faziam parte cinco questões abertas e vinte e três questões fechadas em escala de Lickert. Este instrumento foi aplicado a uma amostra de oitenta técnicos de saúde de uma maternidade lisboeta. Dos resultados e na generalidade, verificou-se que as inferências pessoais, relacionadas com representações preexistentes, tendem a sobrepor-se aos conhecimentos científicos sobre a temática em estudo.^len^aThe goal of this study was to characterize and describe the evaluative dimensions that may be found in the social representations of health professionals (physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, dieticians, physiotherapists) working in a maternity hospital, in what concerns surrogacy, surrogate motherhood and surrogate mothers. An instrument was developed composed of five open questions and twenty three closed questions in a Likert scale. The surveys were filled by a sample of eighty health professionals of a maternity hospital in Lisbon. In general, the results show that personal inferences of the health professionals about the subject under investigation were related with pre-existent representations and preconceptions and not with scientific knowledge.
