Abstract

TAVARES, Edite. A vida depois da vida: Reabilitação psicológica e social na transplantação de órgãos . Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2004, vol.22, n.4, pp.765-777. ISSN 0870-8231.

Organ transplant is undoubtedly a deep physical and psychological change in any person’s life, which requires adaptation resources and a profound reequilibrium. This paper undertakes a theoretical reflection about the reality of organ transplant in its psychological and social rehabilitation dimensions. We trace the path of adaptation to the disease and through the consent and motivation stages of a transplant. We touch also on the post-surgery and associated emotions, the construction of a phantasmatic representation of the donor, and provide a framework for the transplanted person in its family and social settings. We intend to reach some reflections about the gained quality of life and the bio-psycho-social process of becoming a new being again.

Keywords : Organ transplant; donor; self-esteem; social support; quality of life.
