Abstract
FRANCA, Dalila Xavier de and MONTEIRO, Maria Benedita. A expressão das formas indirectas de racismo na infância . Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2004, vol.22, n.4, pp.705-720. ISSN 0870-8231.
Three studies were conducted in order to test the effect of age on White childrens indirect expressions of racism. In the first study racial discrimination was assessed through a task of reward distribution to a White and a Black target in two contexts in which discrimination was or was not justified. Results showed that children older than seven only discriminated against the Black target when this discrimination was justified. In the second study discrimination was assessed through a task of resource allocation in conditions of high or low salience of the anti-racist norm. Children of 5 to 7 discriminated against the Black target in both conditions while older children only discriminated in the anti-racist norm low salience condition. In the third study norm socialisation was assessed by comparing mothers and childrens patterns of racism. Results of the three studies are discussed in terms of the theories of new forms of racism and of the socialisation of prejudice.
