After a brief characterisation of Early Intervention services in Lisbon County, we present part of the results of a research study involving 193 mothers of preschool children with special educational needs and 128 professionals working with those children and families. The data of the interviews/questionnaires responded by mothers and professionals are analysed within the phases of the assessment/intervention process: early screening and referral, assessment methodology, sharing of information with parents, intervention process, service coordination and parental satisfaction. Parents' and professionals' responses are compared and the similarities and discrepancies of their perceptions are analysed within the ecological and transactional models. Data show that recommend practices in Early intervention/early childhood special education are not being effectively implemented within the services in Lisbon County.
